London England Temple

The London England Temple was the first temple built in the British Isles and the second temple erected in Europe, following the Bern Switzerland Temple (1955).

Chester's Eastgate

This is Chester's famous wrought-iron clock tower.

Chester, England

Chester is located just inside England's border with Wales. If you are into history, it is fascinating because of its importance during Roman times. The top picture shows England's largest Roman ampitheater. Tours around the area are led by guides in their Roman soldier attire. Take a look at the sign posted on this church and you'll see just how close Chester is to Wales. Don't even try to figure out what it says because it will be nothing like what you sound out! In the bottom picture you see the remarkable architecture of the black and white "magpie" buildings.

Oxford, England

We just had part of an afternoon in Oxford, but the highlight for me was this little pub where two of my favorite authors, C.S. Lewis and Tolkien, would meet to discuss their writing.

Here is just one of the numerous buildings that make up Oxford University. We were there during their testing, and the students were all dressed in their formal clothing with tails and all. We were told that Hogwarts in Harry Potter was designed after the buildings that make up Oxford University.

Avebury,Wiltshire, England

You can see this (top picture) and other burial mounds in the area of Stonehenge. Crops circles are common in the nearby fields, and the light phenomenon 'earthshine' is seen in this area. Not far from the mounds you come to Avebury which is encircled by a large trench and stone circle with a 4,000 foot circumference. Most of the stones have been moved to make room for agriculture or reused to build houses. In the fourteenth century the Christian church gave orders for the destruction of the heathen 'cult' site. The stones seen here resemble a serpent snaking through the circle.

Bath, England

Visiting Bath was a must for me. I have ancestors from Bath, and with a name like that, well... The beautiful River Avon runs through this charming city, and the cathedral is spectacular. Of course we had to visit the Roman baths that are filled from natural hot springs and try a glass of the mineral waters with its health benefits. As you can see, we ran into the amazing Jane Austin and shopped on Pulteney Bridge.

Stonehenge

It's amazing, what more can I say? I know it had different uses during its long life, but I have a hard time believing it was just a place for pagan worship. It definitely had an astronomical use, and I have to tell you at the risk of sounding New Age, it has an energy and spiritual power. I would love to have it all to myself for just one sunrise or sunset. It is a place that you FEEL.
